Greater New York Area

We are comprised of New York City, Connecticut, and New Jersey. The population of this area is in the tens of millions, and with such a large and vibrant population, there are many schools and institutions that offer trainings and weekend workshops.

Because Helen and Harville lived in New York in the mid-1980s and began to train Imago therapists, the first “region” was formed here, led by Harville. The first president, Charlotte Wolovsky, organized the group for three years by inviting Imago therapists with specific expertise to present at four or five meetings a year.

We have meetings, bylaws and an executive board who plans our meetings and a Sunday tea held after the holidays for clinicians and their families. In addition, during the year, we invite experts to present in-depth daylong or two-day presentations. We currently have 70 members.

Our region is fortunate to have two excellent clinical instructors, Gene Shelly and Herb Tannenbaum, who lead consultation groups and clinical training. In addition, Bruce Wood who was the first president for AIRT lives and works in the Greater NY region also.

We have had a newsletter for the last three years, which is helpful keeping our members aware of upcoming meetings and programs, it is also a great referral tool, as it lists all our members and their areas of expertise.

Bringing in new members is a challenge because of endless competing trainings and weekend workshops offered. The good news, however, is that the professionals who do join us are very motivated to learn and deepen their skills.
